Service Projects

Service is big and important part of passionately living as a Catholic everyday, and so carrying out the corporal and spiritual works of mercy is one of the focuses of PLACE. Our inspiration comes from Paul Shane Spear, who once observed:

“As one person, I cannot change the world, but
I can change the world of one person.”

Again this year, we are excited to be able to work together as a team of energetic, enthusiastic individuals to help “change the world” of those around us. Students will complete at least two service projects, which will include Loaves and Fishes and a second project.

LOAVES AND FISHES

All students will have the opportunity and are expected to volunteer one Saturday morning at Loaves and Fishes, which operates out of St. Paul and St. James Church in New Haven. After working at Loaves and Fishes, please complete the appropriate reflection assignment:

1st-year student reflection (Word) OR (PDF file)

2nd-year student reflection (Word) OR (PDF)

Sign up for Loaves and Fishes can be found here.

The mission of Loaves and Fishes is to: “Share God’s love by providing food, clothing, and community to our neighbors in a safe and welcoming space. Loaves and Fishes is a different kind of nonprofit. We are an organization rooted in community, seeking to blur the line between those who receive our services and those who disseminate them. We believe that strong community is comprised of mutual respect, a value that can easily be seen on any given Saturday.”

SECOND PROJECT

In addition to Loaves and Fishes, please volunteer your time and service for another project. Currently, the opportunities listed below are available. Click on the project name to access the sign-up sheet. More opportunities will be added as the year progresses. If you know of any organizations that need assistance, please let us know and we’ll reach out to them.
